Equity House is building and backing solutions for the career world.

Equity House

A company that fixes careers should be good at giving one.

So here's ours, in full. No CV. The salary is printed on the role. So is the stuff we're bad at.

You shouldn't have to guess your way into a job.

We spend every day telling young people the career world is broken. Then most companies that say that hire exactly like everyone else, a CV, a vague salary, three rounds of interviews and silence. We'd be taking the mickey.

So this page is the whole thing. What we pay. What we ask. What happens after you apply. What's genuinely hard about working here. That's the entire point of the company.

“I grew up without a single person who could tell me how work really worked. The least we can do is not make people guess their way into working here.”
Jackson Parsons, Chief Executive Officer

A CV is mostly a record of who you already knew.

Seventy per cent of roles are still filled through networks most people can't reach. If we screen on that, we hire the people who already had a head start, and then write posts about social mobility. So we don't ask for one. No cover letter either.

We never ask for your current salary, your degree classification, or where you went to school.

Everyone answers the same three questions. Same questions for every role, every applicant, every time.

  1. What's a piece of work you've done that you'd defend in a room full of people who disagreed with you?
  2. Something you believe about work, money or young people that most people in this industry get wrong.
  3. What would you do in your first month here?

Thirty minutes, honestly. Written, voice note or video, whichever you're better at. We're reading for how you think, not how well you've been coached.

Every stage listed, so you always know where you are.

The three questions

30 minutes, on your own time

Submitted by email. Written, voice note or video, whichever you're better at.

You hear back

Within 10 working days

Everyone gets a real reply with a real reason. Not "we've decided to progress other candidates", an actual sentence about your actual application. If we've gone quiet past ten days, email us and hold us to it.

A conversation

45 minutes, video

You get the questions 48 hours in advance. We're not testing whether you're quick on your feet, we're testing whether you're any good at the job. Half the time is yours to ask us anything.

A paid piece of real work

2–3 hours, paid

An actual live problem we're working on, not a fictional case study. You're paid whether we hire you or not, and the work stays yours if we don't.

A day in the house

Our London studio

Meet the team, sit in on a shoot or a build, and grill anyone in the building without us in the room. If you decide it's not for you on that day, you've still had a good day and we've still learned something.

The offer

Within 48 hours of your day

The number will be the number published on the role. No games.

The band on the role is the real band, not the one we open at.

We don't negotiate. Not because we're tight because negotiation quietly pays the most confident person the most money, and confidence is largely a function of who raised you. Everyone at the same level here is paid the same, and everyone can see the bands.

Pay is reviewed for the whole team at once, against published criteria. You'll never have to build a case, catch someone in a good mood, or bring in an outside offer to get paid properly.

If you spot a market reason our band is wrong, tell us and we'll change it for everyone.

What you get, beyond the number.

38 days off

Not unlimited: unlimited holiday is a policy where nobody takes any. Thirty-eight actual days, and we check you've taken them.

Summer Fridays

Off through the summer months.

Winter Mondays

Off through the darkest months of the year. They're hard enough already.

Loyalty bonus

It grows the longer you stay. Because the only way to get a pay rise shouldn't be to leave.

A mentor who isn't your manager

We built a mentoring platform. It'd be strange not to use it.

Kit, pension and learning budget

The practical stuff, published in full on every role before you apply.

What's actually hard about working here.

Every careers page lists the perks. Here's the other column, so you can make a proper decision.

We're not investor-backed, on purpose

The house is funded through commercial partnerships and media, not a raise. That keeps us independent all the way to a billion, but budgets get earned, not allocated. If you need a big war chest to do your best work, you'll find this frustrating.

The team is small and the remit is enormous

Four brands, a production studio and a nine-point public pledge. There is usually nobody to hand it to. People who like clean job descriptions don't tend to last.

We publish our promises

Nine pledges with public numbers attached. That's brilliant for accountability and genuinely stressful when a number isn't moving.

We're in the studio most of the week

We make things: shows, shoots, product. Some of that doesn't work over video. If you want fully remote, we're not it.

The mission is one billion people

Some weeks that's the most energising thing you've ever worked on. Some weeks it feels absurd. Both are normal.

We ask a lot of the companies we call good employers. Same rules apply here.

  1. You'll never need a CV to be considered.
  2. You'll always know the salary before you apply.
  3. You'll always get a real reply with a real reason, within 10 working days.
  4. You'll never do unpaid work for us.
  5. You'll always know exactly what stage you're at and what's next.

Break one of these and we'll owe you an explanation. contact@equityhouse.io

A panel discussion being filmed in a bright studio space

Nothing open right now, tell us anyway.

We hire ahead of roles more often than we advertise them, and the best applications we've had came before the job existed. Answer the same three questions and tell us what you'd build here. If it's a real fit, we'll make room. If it isn't, you'll still get a proper reply.
